Tournament Rules

General Rules:

  • We ask that players, coaches and fans display good sportsmanship at all times. Any disrespectful behavior towards players, coaches or officials is grounds for removal from the tournament.
  • All teams must supply their own reversible to use during the tournament.
  • Pool play games are eight (8) minutes with two (2) minutes in-between. If the game is tied at the end of regulation, the game will end in a tie. Playoff games are six minutes (6) in length and if tied at the end of regulation a Braveheart will determine the winner.
  • Each team will compete with four (4) field players and one (1) goalie on the field.
  • One coach is permitted on the field with each team. All other parents and fans must stay off the turf and behind the barriers for safety reasons.
  • All teams waiting to come on the field, must be off the turf and behind barriers (in designated player/team areas).
  • Players must wear goggles and mouth guards at all times. No jewelry is permitted.

Game Rules:

  • Each games starts with one game of rock-paper-scissors to determine first possession.
  • Games are played "half-court".  After goals, turnovers, or GK saves -  teams must clear the ball to the top of the box before attacking the cage. During the time when ball is being cleared, GKs will have time to switch out of the cage.

* On a change of possession (turnover or GK save) is a contested clear to the top of the box.

* After goals, it is a free clear to top of the box and the ball starts with team who was scored upon (i.e. It is NOT "make-it, take-it").

  • Substitute on the fly through the designated subbing area at the top of the box. The player exiting the field must be off of the field entirely before her teammate enters.
  • ONE PASS RULE - Teams must attempt one (1) pass before going to goal. The pass does not need to be caught, just attempted. A pass in the free zone/substitute area does not count towards the one (1) pass rule.
  • There are no 8-meter shots but a lane will be cleared. The fouling defender will go behind. If the team who has been fouled has already completed their passes, that player may go to goal. If not, they must finish the number of passes needed before shooting.
  • Three (3) second rule will be closely monitored as there is no marked 8-meter on several of the fields. Shooting space and dangerous follow through will be strictly enforced.
  • If a player receives a yellow card, she must sit out for ONE (1) minute but a sub can come back in (no man-down play). If the same player receives two (2) yellow cards in the same game, she must sit for the rest of the game.
  • No stalling is permitted. One warning will be given before a change of possession is awarded. This is at the referee's discretion.

5th & 6th Grade Division - Modified Checking (stick must be below the shoulder).

7th & 8th Grade Division - Full Checking

Scoring and Playoff Procedures:

  • The scorekeeper on the field will keep score and call out the score after each goal.
  • Teams will be awarded three (3) points for a WIN, two (2) points for a TIE and one (1) point for a LOSS.
  • In the event of a tie after pool play (before playoffs), the winner will be determined first by winner in head to head competition
  • If there is a three-way tie, the next tie break will be total goals against then a coin toss.
  • Playoffs games will be six (6) minutes in duration. If there is a tie at the end of a playoff game, the official will set up a draw at the top of the box for a 2v2 Braveheart. (Two field players and 1 goalie from each team will compete).
  • One pass must be attempted before shooting
  • All fouls are indirect during the Braveheart
